A glimpse of History
Born in a cradle of History.
Cyril Dupuy, founder of Vaonis, was born and raised in the south of France, immersed in Mediterranean history and culture. Influenced by a mother who was an architect and a father with a passion for art, he developed from an early age a demanding and perfectionist eye for the world around him, always seeking elegant simplicity and balance in forms. His home is minimalist, almost austere to his friends. But to Cyril, it is a pure expression of Feng Shui philosophy: a perfect balance between space and functionality, where elegance lies in simplicity.
Growing up under the stars.
During a holiday at his grandparents' house in Nice, his grandmother suggested visiting the city’s prestigious observatory. As soon as he stepped into the main dome, he discovered the immense 18-meter telescope. Fascinated, it was a revelation and the beginning of a passion that has driven him since the age of 15: Astronomy.
As the internet boomed, Cyril’s days were filled with discussions on enthusiast forums, as well as numerous tinkering sessions with the instruments his family gave him for Christmas or his birthday. In the evenings, he would climb onto the roof of the family house to test his modifications, often earning reprimands from his mother, which he still remembers.

Sharing and Passing On.
To fund his travels and satisfy his curiosity about the world, Cyril became an educator in organizations focused on making science accessible in underprivileged areas. For several years, he explained the workings of the universe to thousands of children. This topic fascinates everyone, regardless of age, values, or education. Where do we come from? What is the meaning of our existence? Are we alone? Astronomy raises these existential questions but doesn’t claim to answer them; it simply provides elements that help us build our own responses.
During this time, Cyril used numerous telescopes and primarily allowed the public to observe. He noticed that curiosity about the sky often fades with age. The reason, to him, is clear: the tools for stargazing are no longer suited to our modern lifestyles. Difficult to set up and use, heavy and bulky, the observation experience is often disappointing for beginners...
Progressing to Raise Awareness of Our World.
Building on his years of experience in the field of astronomy and these observations, Cyril set out to envision how to make this practice easier and more immersive. In his student room, just steps away from the University of Montpellier's science campus where he was studying aerospace, he laid the foundation for the first smart telescope in history.
At 24, he decided to follow his instincts and left university to create Vaonis, with a clear mission: to help as many people as possible discover the universe through wonder.
Unite to Turn an Idea into a Leading Company.
The encounter with Technical Director Gilles Krebs gave Vaonis the means to realize its ambitions. Highly experienced and passionate about astronomy, Gilles brought his vast expertise to the development of a groundbreaking telescope: the first-ever smart telescope, Stellina. Shortly after, Stéphanie Simpraseuth joined the adventure, and thanks to her exceptional skills and personality, she helped bring international visibility to the young company.
The product line expanded with the creation of two new smart telescopes: Vespera and Hestia. Two new stars in the Vaonis constellation, continuing its relentless pursuit of progress in the service of humanity.

We designed our products to be smaller than traditional ones, not only for easier portability, but also to reduce material consumption and minimize their transportation impact. Light is right.
Eco-designed with recyclable materials, they incorporate electronics and software tailored to minimize energy usage.And they are made for durability. We create pieces of technology that will accompany you over the years to experience the Cosmos.
Education - Wonder is a path to knowledge.
Astronomy is the study of celestial objects. As enthusiasts, our activity doesn't stop at simply observing these objects but extends to understanding them. Our mission is to help you deepen your knowledge of the universe; without that, we would be merely equipment sellers. Knowledge is a path toward awareness—of oneself and of the environment around us, of the fragility of the Earth and the species that inhabit it. Humbly, we strive to do our part.
When Science meets Art.
Art and science, often seen as distinct realms, share a deep connection rooted in creativity and exploration. Both seek to understand and interpret the world—science through observation, experimentation, and discovery; Art, through expression, emotion, and interpretation. Scientists and artists alike rely on curiosity, imagination, and the pursuit of truth, whether it's unveiling the mysteries of the universe or capturing the essence of human experience. At their core, both disciplines push boundaries, challenge perceptions, and inspire innovation, proving that the line between them is not rigid but fluid, where creativity and inquiry meet.
It was an evidence for us to embody this Art and Science union through our products, with the creation of limited editions, timeless pieces of technology and expression.
