What to observe in the sky in April 2025 with a smart telescope ?
02 Apr. 2025
Best period for deep sky observation in April 2025
It is recommended to observe nebulae and galaxies when the Moon is not visible. Its brightness diminishes the darkness of the sky and reduces the quality of observations of faint and diffuse objects.
Refer to the following calendar for the best days this month.
Celestial Scene of the Month
Northern Hemisphere
The northern hemisphere sky in April doesn’t offer many large targets or wide celestial groups of objects. However, if you missed it last month, you still have time to point your telescope toward the impressive chain of galaxies in Markarian’s Chain.
For nebulae, the group consisting of the Bubble Nebula and the Lobster Claw Nebula is an interesting option. It's best to begin capturing after midnight (using Plan My Night) to allow this region to rise higher in the sky.
It is recommended to use the dual-band filter for this observation.
Southern hemisphere
The Coalsack is a vast dark nebula that appears to cut through the Milky Way and is easily visible to the naked eye. Even with mosaic mode, capturing its full extent is not possible. Its most contrasted region is located near the star Acrux.
"Plan my Night" of the month
Suggested observation program you can automate with "Plan My Night."
Give each object as much observation time as you can to get the best results.
Northern Hemisphere
Using the dual-band filter is not recommended for this plan.
Time | Target |
---|---|
Early Night |
Leo Triplet : M65, M66 and NGC 3628 galaxies. |
Mid Night |
Hercules globular cluster - M13.
|
Late Night |
Ring Nebula : M57 - A planetary nebula. |
Southern Hemisphere
Using the dual-band filter is not recommended for this plan, as it involves a mix of object types.
Time | Target |
---|---|
Early Night |
Leo Triplet : M65, M66 and NGC 3628 galaxies. |
Mid Night |
Wishing Well Cluster (NGC 3532) and surrounding HII region. |
